The Details:

Some of the largest and most popular sites on the internet will be closing down for a day on January 18th to protest two pieces of pending congressional legislation. Wikipedia’s English language site, Reddit, TwitPic and Boing Boing, among others will go dark to protest the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA) — two anti-piracy bills that are currently making their way through Congress. Other sites like Google, Scribd and Craigslist will remain functional but will take measures to highlight their opposition to these bills.

In the words of Craigslist: STOP PIPA & SOPA. S968 & HR3261 are threatening CL and the rest of your Internet. Most of the web sites you use strongly oppose these bills. Find out why, and how you can help put a stop to this madness before it’s too late!

Make up your own mind by finding out more at the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
Then use this page at the EFF to contact your Senators and Congressman and make your wishes known.
